Evangelos Efthymiou

Dr. Evangelos Efthymiou is Assistant Professor at the Institute of Metal Structures at the Department of Civil Engineering of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) in Thessaloniki, Greece, where since January 2012 he is assigned with teaching and research responsibilities in the discipline of structural engineering related to metal-based components, buildings and structures. He teaches Steel Structures Analysis and Design, Seismic Design of Steel Structures, Structural Aluminium design, as well Steel and Aluminium in Architecture (School of Architecture AUTh).

His research interests focus on theoretical, numerical and experimental investigation of mechanical behavioural aspects and sustainability credentials regarding the deployment of metallic materials in construction field, covering a wide range of building types, from residential dwellings and commercial warehouses to multistorey offices and infrastructure constructions (telecommunication towers, wind turbines) addressing design requirements and standardization aspects of new structures as well as retrofit activities of old existing architectural heritage.

He has published more than 90 peer-review scientific works in international journals and conferences, while he has actively participated in 20 European and National funded research projects on afore-mentioned objectives.

Dr Efthymiou is a Fulbright Scholar, having exercised mobility to UCLA CEE- University of California, Los Angeles/ Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (2022-2023). In view of standardization, Dr Efthymiou is a member of European and National Technical Committees, TC250/SC9 (Convenor of WG1) and ELOT/TC67 respectively, contributing to the development of the second generation-2G of Eurocode 9: Design of Aluminium Structures and Eurocode 3: Design of Steel Structures.
